The Cameroon government is launching the Fourth General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH). Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute announced the operation in a press release issued on March 6, 2026.

This national operation, which has been awaited for over a decade, will take place from April 24 to May 29, 2026, covering all ten regions of Cameroon. Thousands of enumerators will be mobilized in the field.
They will collect information on households and their living conditions.

Essential data collection

Agents will identify the population's age, occupation and level of education. They will also analyze housing conditions and access to basic social services.

The last census was carried out in 2005. This information will help the authorities to better understand the country's demographic evolution.

This new edition (RGPH) introduces a major innovation. It will be coupled with the agriculture and livestock census.
The authorities want to know more about the agro-pastoral potential of these territories.
The data collected will support the planning of rural development policies.

Over 13 billion mobilized for the operation

The State is mobilizing more than 13 billion FCFA to organize this national operation.
The teams will also be using innovative technical devices.
These tools will enable us to reach the most remote areas of the country.

According to the government, the results will guide public policy.
They will also help to better plan development and meet the needs of local populations.
