The Director of Elections Cameroon, Dr Erik Essousse, launched a digital campaign in Yaoundé on April 22, 2026. Its aim is to boost citizen participation in the revision of electoral rolls. Speaking to the press at the institution's headquarters in Yaoundé, he set the tone for this nationwide operation. It runs from April 22 to 30, 2026. The campaign is based on daily themes adapted to citizens« profiles. For the first day, the message is clear: »You are at least 20 years old, register on an electoral roll."

According to the Director General of Elections Cameroon, the national electoral roll has more than 8 million registered voters. In 2026, it will already register 88,156 new voters. This figure remains encouraging, but insufficient to meet the real potential. Young people represent almost 70 % of the priority target.

A digital strategy to reach young voters

To effectively reach this population, ELECAM is strengthening its digital strategy. The objective is clear: to intensify its online presence. The institution is targeting platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The aim is to reach as many citizens as possible, especially young working people. The Director General also invites citizens to consult the electoral register online. They can check their registration and obtain useful information on the official website. In accordance with Cameroon's Electoral Code, electoral rolls are permanent. They are subject to annual revision. Articles 76 and 77 govern this procedure.

The purpose of this operation is to update electoral data. However, certain situations can lead to deletions. In the event of death, the authorities withdraw the voter's name. Similarly, a court decision may suspend a voter's civic rights. This regular updating ensures the reliability of the electoral register. The operation lasts four months throughout the country. It also concerns Cameroonians living abroad. As the revision continues, ELECAM is calling for increased mobilization. Registering is not just an administrative formality. It represents a major civic act. It remains essential to take part in the presidential, legislative and municipal elections. Through this digital campaign, the institution aims to strengthen the confidence of citizens. It focuses on transparency, proximity and access to information.
