MARCH 8, 2026 IN CAMEROON: CELEBRATIONS TESTED BY SOCIAL REALITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry for the Promotion of Women and the Family organizes conferences, debates and sports walks across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As 41\u1d49 International Women's Rights Day approaches, initiatives are multiplying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But beyond the festivities, many women are calling for concrete action. They want to go beyond speeches and symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They denounce the daily reality of women's professional and social lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gender-based violence causes concern<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

March 8, 2026 comes at a time when violence is on the rise and the number of feminicides is high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local media and human rights organizations, nearly 70 feminicides took place in Cameroon in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further cases were reported in 2025 and 2026. These crimes occur mainly in contexts of domestic or gender-based violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cases of rape and torture inflicted on young girls also add to this disturbing reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faced with this situation, many are calling on the authorities to take firm action to protect women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A celebration that must rediscover its meaning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Officially instituted by the United Nations in 1977, International Women's Rights Day has its origins in workers' struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its aim was to guarantee better working conditions and equal rights for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, women are reminding us that the day is not just about wearing loincloths or celebrating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They demand a return to the true meaning of celebration: effectively defending women's rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the theme \u00abRights, justice, action for all women and girls\u00bb, the 2026 edition focuses on access to justice and real equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It must also encourage economic empowerment and protect women against all forms of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
