On the occasion of International Women's Rights Day, celebrated on March 8, women took stock of the progress made. They also recalled the many challenges that remain.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forty years after its creation, this day continues to give a voice to women around the world. It provides an important forum for assessing progress in equality and the protection of rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women also applaud the initiative of the United Nations, the originator of this world day. This initiative aims to promote equality between men and women and strengthen their rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visible progress in several sectors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, much progress has been made in promoting women's rights. Today, more and more women hold positions of responsibility in public administrations. They are also taking up positions in the defense and security forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What's more, some of them now head up the general management of companies. Women's access to ministerial and other decision-making positions also illustrates this progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numerous activities were organized as part of the celebrations. Conferences, roundtables and trade fairs marked this year's event. In Yaound\u00e9, women took part in a grand parade on the Boulevard du 20 Mai. First Lady Chantal Biya presided over the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parade brought together public and private administrations. Women's associations and civil society organizations also took part. It was the high point of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite progress, challenges persist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite these advances, a number of obstacles remain.
In many societies, women still suffer inequality and various forms of discrimination. Gender-based violence also remains a worrying reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme of this 41\u1d49 edition is: \u00abRights, justice and action for all women and girls\u00bb. This theme calls for the reinforcement of concrete actions in favor of equality. Thus, International Women's Rights Day is not just a celebration. Above all, it is a reminder of the persistent challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It calls on governments, institutions and civil society to step up their commitment. The objective remains clear: to guarantee the rights of women and girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
