Following the March 18, 2026 election to the upper house of Parliament, Aboubakary Abdoulaye was elected President of the Senate by acclamation. He obtained 100 % of the votes cast. He succeeds Marcel Niat Njifenji. He thus officially takes the helm of the institution.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A renewal at the head of the Senate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After the renewal of the National Assembly, this election confirms an institutional renewal. Indeed, the change also reaches the Cameroonian Senate. This institution, created in 2013, was headed by Marcel Niat Njifenji.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plenary session was held on March 15, 2026 in Yaound\u00e9. It was part of the first parliamentary session, which opened on March 10. On this occasion, the senators chose Aboubakary Abdoulaye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invested upstream by the RDPC, he enjoyed unanimous support. What's more, he had been a member of the Senate since its creation. Until now first vice-president, he had already assumed the presidential functions. This was due to Marcel Niat Njifenji's fragile state of health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A solid political and administrative background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Born on December 21, 1961 in Rey-Bouba, in the Nord region, Aboubakary Abdoulaye has a wealth of experience. He has held several strategic positions within the State. In particular, he worked in the Presidential Mail Department of the Civil Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then chaired several boards of directors. These include MAETUR and the Senate. At the same time, he has been first-degree traditional chief of the Rey-Bouba lamidat since 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also heads the CPDM Central Committee's permanent regional delegation in the North. A civil administrator who graduated from ENAM, he was appointed Secretary of State for Agriculture at the age of 36. He has gradually consolidated his influence on the national political scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
